Earthquakes timed to interrupt daily life

10/03/2011 19:21
Is it just me or have other people started to notice that there seem to be a lot of earthquakes about 9 in the morning or 10pm at night? Give or take an hour? So often I feel that I'm either just about to go to sleep or am jolted awake after only a short zzzzzzzz to yet another biggish earthquake....

Thankyou to all the ordinary people doing their day jobs

07/03/2011 12:52
I may have missed the news release or the press announcement or possibly I just vagued out when Bob Parker had been talking to too long. Or maybe when all the search and rescue people were being thanked all these people were included....so this may already have happened, but if not here...

Rebuilding Christchurch like the three little pigs

04/03/2011 19:32
Houses made of wood? Houses built on sand? Sounds like we're thinking like the three little pigs or a child's nursery rhyme! The most modern buildings are structurally fine, so there's no need to create superstitious thinking that somehow all wooden buildings are more magically safe.   The new...

History is being destroyed, by us not the earthquake

02/03/2011 17:35
Today we realised that there are more holes and spaces around the city than caused by the earthquake. Several badly damaged buildings have already been pulled down, so there is now no hope of restoration. This was a big debate before the quake. The Christchurch City Council refused to speed up the...

Gerry Brownlee - what about the cathedral???

02/03/2011 10:46
Gerry Brownlee has publicly stated that he doesn't think we should waste our time restoring old buildings as the risk is too high. Sadly some of the people involved in the restoration of Christchurch's buildings may have died while at work. However where does Mr Brownlee's statement leave...

Missing Suburbia

28/02/2011 10:54
So much of the quake coverage has shown the horrific and devastating effects on the inner city buildings. We've heard rumours that the whole of Armagh St will have to be demolished. It's hard to separate fact from hysteria right now. However from the parts of the city that we can see...

48 hours after the 3rd big quake

24/02/2011 00:00
I feel very lucky to be alive. I hope that you and your families and your friends are ok. The shock of the events over the last 48 hours has been awful and I think it'll take a long time for Cantabrians to even realise how shocked we are. The loss of life during this quake has realised our...

"Boxing Day" Sales start this Sat!

10/02/2011 10:59
The Christchurch inner city "Boxing Day" sales start this Sat the 12th Feb 2011. Numerous businesses have signed onto the idea, so hopefully it helps draw a few more people into town to support businesses which have been badly affected by the quakes. Sadly most of the severaly affected...

Living life around the quakes

09/02/2011 11:01
Has anyone else noticed that they have changed the way they live due to the quakes? I catch myself walking faster under street awnings....particularly in the inner city. Or I worry about how far away I am from my son. If there was another big quake, could I get to him in time? It seems...

Hot weather and chimneys

07/02/2011 11:02
The incredibly hot weather on Sunday the 6th February has made this blogger worry. If we're getting this gorgeous hot weather now, what's coming up for winter? Increadibly cold, wet, windy winter days? With each aftershoclk more chimnys falls down. The EQC is prioritising chimny claims and aims to...
