Gerry Brownlee - what about the cathedral???

Gerry Brownlee has publicly stated that he doesn't think we should waste our time restoring old buildings as the risk is too high. Sadly some of the people involved in the restoration of Christchurch's buildings may have died while at work. However where does Mr Brownlee's statement leave iconic buildings such at the Christchurch catherdral? How do we decide which buildings are not iconic enough to save? Whose job is that? I hope it's not Gerry's!
