History is being destroyed, by us not the earthquake

Today we realised that there are more holes and spaces around the city than caused by the earthquake. Several badly damaged buildings have already been pulled down, so there is now no hope of restoration. This was a big debate before the quake. The Christchurch City Council refused to speed up the process of pulling down our history, but they've obviously lost the fight. Bealey Ave is already a different street. No longer lined with grand old homes, now it is lined with bulldozers. It's just so sad driving past. Here at Christchurch Movers and Shakers our hearts go out to the owners of these beautiful old buildings. We hope you survived unscathed, safe and sound, because your houses have so obviously become sad victims of the quake.

This beautiful old homestead of Bealey Ave was demolished following significant damage, but many others are being taken down as well.
