Hello Bill and Boots,
I like the idea of trying to find out what the Christchurch style is or could be. We're going to set up a forum with pics of possible buildings which may assist with this debate. I'd love to know what you both think!

How much did that one building cost to build tho Bill??!!! And how weird would it look if we had lots of buildings like that? The art gallery wouldn't stand out as an original piece of architecture at all then. I guess that could also be "the Napier Look" - have every building look the same and have that as your town's claim to fame. Maybe we should call Christchurch the Stepford Town of the South

A Christchurch look for me would include elements of the present and past. I am a fan of the new art gallery as I find the mix of open space, size and stone has echos to the Arts Centre (which I also really like). There was still scope for imagination being used with the new Art Gallery which I think has added to Christchurch's identity without imposing slavish contraints from the past. My hope would be that new developments could do something similar - I even think the new Christchurch City Council building achieves this too. I'd be interested to hear what others think.

Good idea Bill, but what is the Christchurch look? Is it the historical one or is it something we have to create? I'm scared about what we might end up with. There are some pretty yukky modern buildings out there!!
